This retreat center does local community volunteering to help out in their local area.

This week, Grotto catches up with Sarah George, director of Emmaus Farm Retreat Center. They lead youth and young adult groups to do service in their local community. "Volunteering is the way that makes the most sense to actively live oue Gospel call."

Video Transcript

Sarah George: My name is Sarah George, and I'm the founder and director of Emmaus Farm, which is a nonprofit retreat center. We host high school and college volunteer groups for a week at a time to do service here in the county.

In the day we do service sites, kind of direct service or our ministry in the community. So we take our volunteer groups out into the community to meet local folks, learn about what it's like to be from this part of the country. Some of the things we might do are visits, visit local people, learn about their life, hear their stories, and build relationships with people.

Volunteering or serving is just kind of the way that makes the most sense to actively live our Gospel call. My life here in Lewis County is perhaps a little more drastic or radical than some people who might want to get involved in their communities.

You know take the leap. What do you have to lose?
