Watch why the Knights of Columbus put on Lenten fish fries throughout the season of Lent.

This week, Grotto catches up with Brian Griffiths, a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, to learn about the famous KofC Fish Fry.

"Catholic churches all around the country, all around the world do fish fries," he explains. "We get lots of people both from the parish and from the community to come through."

Video Transcript

Brian Griffiths: My name is Brian Griffiths. The Knights of Columbus are an organization for men to come together to grow their faith, to grow in their community, and to give back both to Church and to the community at large.

Us Catholics, during the season of Lent — we don't eat meat on Fridays. So, five out of six Fridays during Lent, we will do a fish fry to celebrate our faith, to give people an opportunity to come together, to eat fish, and think about those things that are important to us as we prepare for the Easter season.

We get lots of people, both from the parish and from the community, to come through the fish fries. Catholic churches all around the country, all around the world, do fish fries. And there are also many other Protestant churches that do fish fries as well during the Lenten season.

For people who don't have a fish fry near them, it's just making a conscious effort to not eat meat on Friday. It's just one small thing that we can do in order to recognize the sacrifice that our Lord made for us.
