Praying with icons can be a new form of prayer. If you're willing to try it, read how to do it here.

Typically, we think about prayer in terms of language — speaking with God. But prayer can happen through visual reflection and contemplation, too. That’s what icons are for — they are images that open windows into heaven. Gazing on these images in prayerful reflection puts us in God’s presence in a unique way.

We’ve gathered seven icons here from artists who are breathing new life into this ancient tradition. Also included is a step-by-step guide to praying with these images, including special prompts to help you observe the icon more closely. Just fill out the form below and we’ll send the download to your inbox.
